Get Started With A Star Citizen Free Fly

The Star Citizen Free Fly started on 2 July 2025 at 1600 UTC (Noon Eastern / 9 AM Pacific in the USA) and will be available until 14 July 2025 at 2000 UTC (4 PM Eastern / 1 PM Pacific in the USA). This Free Fly is running with the Foundation Festival event.

Here are the steps you need to take to play Star Citizen for free during this Free Fly:

1. Create a free Star Citizen account. Our Enlist with Referral page provides detailed instructions for setting up a Star Citizen account with a referral code to unlock the free 50000 credit referral bonus. You can perform this step before the Free Fly starts to save time.
2. Go to the official RSI website free fly activation page and click the "FLY FOR FREE" button to have the Free Fly added to your account:

3. After clicking the button, you'll see a "DOWNLOAD LAUNCHER" confirmation.
4. Download and install Star Citizen.  Our How to Download & Install page has step-by-step instructions to guide you through installing Star Citizen.
5. Play Star Citizen for free until the free fly ends!

For this Free Fly, all players will be loaned the 8 ships and vehicles to use for free during the Free Fly, so you'll be able to explore everywhere in the Star Citizen 'verse, even if you don't have a starter package and ship. The 8 loaners are: Aegis Gladius, Crusader Intrepid, Drake Cutlass Red, Drake Golem, Drake Vulture, Gatac Syulen, Greycat MTC, and Mirai Fury.

Star Citizen does not have a free trial period that is always available. Star Citizen Free Fly events are the only way to try the game for free. Each Free Fly is a promotion that allows all players to play the game for no cost (aka "free") as long as they have a free Star Citizen account. There are usually 4 to 5 Free Fly events throughout the year, and each event is only available for a limited time.
