How to Use a Star Citizen Referral Code

An Avenger Titan takes off from a planetary spaceport in Star Citizen.

What is a Star Citizen Referral Code?

A Star Citizen referral code is a code that you can use when you set up an account for Star Citizen to get Star Citizen game credits for free. Star Citizen calls these game credits United Earth Credits, so you'll usually see the term abbreviated as UEC. Using a Star Citizen referral code gives your account 5000 UEC for free!

The Star Citizen referral code program is officially supported by the Star Citizen developers and is available at all times; however, you can not use a Star Citizen referral code after you set up a Star Citizen account - you can only use a Star Citizen referral code when you set up your Star Citizen account, so don't forget it!

Star Citizen is not available in online game stores like Steam or Epic, and you need to create an account with the Star Citizen developers, Cloud Imperium Games, to purchase and play Star Citizen. In the next section, we go over the steps you need to take when you "enlist", the Star Citizen term for setting up an account, with a Star Citizen referral code and receive 5000 free UEC.

How do I use a Star Citizen Referral Code?

If you want to use Star Citizen referral code, here are the steps you need to take when you sign up for a Star Citizen account:

  • You need to leave this website and go to the official Roberts Space Industries website to sign up for a Star Citizen account. Click the link below (or copy and paste it into a new browser window) to go to the official Roberts Space Industries website:

  • Provide the requested information to create a Star Citizen account.
  • If the Referral Code field is empty, enter this referral code to get 5000 bonus Star Citizen game credits for FREE:
    • STAR-NTSD-NTKT
  • You don't need to check the "Stay Informed" box - it is optional!
    • If you enable this option, then you will get weekly update emails for Star Citizen events and special messages for sales, free fly events, major update releases, and other new content!
  • You need to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to proceed.
  • Finally, click the "Enlist" button to complete the sign up process.

Why should I use a Star Citizen Referral Code?

The best reason is the 5000 FREE STAR CITIZEN CREDITS!

Using a referral code is the only way to receive 5000 Star Citizen game credits (UEC) for free. These credits will be available to you on Day 1 when Star Citizen is released, and you can use them to buy anything in Star Citizen.

During development, "citizens", the Star Citizen term for players, are provided a stipend of 20000 "alpha UEC" when they start playing; however, you will not be able to use these alpha UEC when Star Citizen development ends and the Star Citizen is released.

Does it cost anything to set up a Star Citizen account?

No, it does not cost anything to set up an account for Star Citizen.

Though there is no cost for setting up an account for Star Citizen, you will need to purchase a starting package to be able to play Star Citizen whenever a free fly is not active!

Does enlisting allow me to play Star Citizen? What do I need to do next to play Star Citizen?

Enlisting is the first step to being able to play Star Citizen, but it is not the only step you need to take before you can play Star Citizen.

If a Star Citizen free fly is not ongoing, or if you want to play Star Citizen beyond the promotional period, then you need to purchase a Star Citizen starting package to be able to play! If you need to purchase a game package, then check out our recommendations for the best starter ships and the steps you need to take to buy a Star Citizen starter package on our Pick a Starter Ship page.

If a Star Citizen free fly promotion is ongoing, then you can use that to play Star Citizen for free during the promotion period. Once the Star Citizen free fly ends, you will not be able to play Star Citizen, but your progress will be saved (unless there is a wipe!) If you enlisted to participate a free fly event, then check out our How to Join a Free Fly page to learn how to access the Star Citizen free fly.

How do I know the Star Citizen Referral Code worked?

If the Star Citizen referral code worked, then you will see a balance of 5000 UEC in your Star Citizen account. To check if the Star Citizen referral code worked when you enlisted, you can check your UEC balance by following the directions below:

  • You need to leave this website and go to the official Roberts Space Industries website to check your UEC balance. Click the link below (or copy and paste it into a new browser window) to go to the official Roberts Space Industries website:
  • Scroll down to the "Credits" section
  • Your UEC balance will be shown in yellow
  • If your balance is 5000 UEC, then the code worked!
